Ramon Damas
A Cookeville native by choice, Ramon Damas brings firsthand experience with the human cost of legal outcomes to every case he handles, from criminal defense to matters with immigration consequences.

Ramon Damas
Mr. Damas brings a uniquely personal perspective to criminal defense. His background as a private investigator, his experience with immigration court, and his firsthand understanding of how legal outcomes affect families shape every case he takes.
All roads lead to Cookeville.
Ramon Damas first came to Cookeville as a teenager from Miami, Florida. Born in Morristown, New Jersey and raised in Miami, Cookeville was different: smaller, closer-knit, and deeply rooted in community. As the son of Honduran immigrants, Mr. Damas was welcomed with open arms, an experience that would shape both his identity and his approach to the law.
It wasn't long before Mr. Damas became fully immersed in Cookeville life, from hiking Burgess Falls to competing in the Mud Run at Cane Creek Park. He graduated from Cookeville High School in 2009 and, like many graduates, attended Tennessee Tech University. In 2010, however, his life took an unexpected turn when his mother was deported. Faced with the sudden reality of family separation and the far-reaching consequences of the legal system, Mr. Damas took a year-long sabbatical from his studies to focus on his family and refocus on his goals.
When he returned to Tennessee Tech, Mr. Damas did so with clarity and purpose: to become a lawyer who understands that legal outcomes affect real families, not just case files. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Tennessee Tech University and went on to attend the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, originally intending to practice immigration law.
During law school, Mr. Damas served on the Moot Court Board, externed for the Immigration Court in Memphis, and worked as a private investigator with Blackwatch Investigations. That investigative experience reinforced a principle that guides his practice to this day: "A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its shoes." Mr. Damas learned the importance of patience, thorough preparation, and uncovering the truth…especially when someone’s future is on the line.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Damas joined the Claiborne Ferguson Law Firm, a criminal defense firm where he developed into a tireless advocate for individuals whose truth had not yet been heard. In addition to handling criminal defense matters, he represented immigration clients and those facing cases involving both criminal and immigration consequences. This dual practice sharpened his ability to identify hidden risks, particularly where a criminal charge could have life-altering immigration consequences.
Despite building his career in Memphis, Mr. Damas never forgot Cookeville. He regularly made the long drive back to visit family and friends, and over time it became clear that Cookeville was not just home; it was where he belonged. Ultimately, all roads led back to Cookeville.
Today, Mr. Damas practices law with the understanding that clients often come to him during the most stressful moments of their lives. He approaches every case with care, diligence, and the belief that every person deserves to be heard, defended, and treated with dignity. Understanding that being accused of a crime does not define a person, but how that accusation is handled can define their future. Mr. Damas approaches every case with meticulous preparation and a commitment to uncovering the truth. His work in investigations taught him that facts matter, context matters, and rushing to judgment often leads to injustice.
Mr. Damas is particularly attentive to cases where criminal charges intersect with immigration consequences, ensuring that his clients are fully informed and protected from unintended outcomes.
Based in Cookeville, Tennessee, Mr. Damas practices with a deep sense of responsibility to his community, believing that everyone, regardless of accusation, deserves a strong defense and fair treatment under the law.
Outside the office, Mr. Damas enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters and son. He also enjoys coaching local youth soccer with All-In FC, playing board games, and exploring Tennessee's outdoors with his family.
